General Information:

Worship at Trinity Parish is intended to be welcoming, relevant and recognizably Episcopalian. Trinity Parish is seeking to call a part-time Organist committed to excellence in leading liturgical music through our pipe organ and piano. The Organist will serve as an integral member of our ministry staff and assist and support the Choir Director in planning and implementing weekly Sunday worship services.

Job Responsibilities

The specific tasks of the Organist will include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide accompaniment via organ and/or piano for Sunday morning rehearsal and 10 a.m. Sunday morning worship service each Sunday through the year.  In addition to, but not limited to the following seasonal worship services: Advent/Lessons and Carols, Christmas Eve services, Holy Week, Easter, Pentecost, and Trinity Sunday and other church services/events as requested.
  • Attend and accompany the choir during weekly Wednesday evening choir rehearsals, currently 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Including any additional rehearsals as needed for special services/events.
  • Personal practice and preparation time at home or at church.
  • Work cooperatively with the Choir Director, Rector, and Parish Administrator which includes attending regular worship and liturgy meetings and/or staff meetings.
  • Provide music selection for Prelude and Postlude each Sunday, and other services as needed, unless other arrangements have been made.
  • Be available for weddings or funeral services held at Trinity, recognizing that the compensation for these services will be paid by the family or funeral home.
  • Accompany soloists and ensembles as needed.
  • Inform Choir Director and/or arrange for a substitute organist on Sundays you will not be available for the Eucharist.
  • Notify the Choir Director and Parish Administrator regarding any maintenance or turning need of any instruments used.
  • Upon hire, there will be a 90-day mutual conversation. Thereafter, participation in annual performance appraisal is expected.  Reviews will be conducted by the Choir Director. 
  • Job reports directly to the Choir Director.  Any pay increases are approved by the vestry. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned, as related to the music program.

Qualifications and Skills

Required:

  • Excellent accompanying and sight-reading skills.
  • Superb musician with a commitment to excellence in liturgical worship.
  • Excellent communication skills including: phone, email, and text.
  • Ability to be an adaptable member of the music ministry team, and work well in collaboration with others, both staff and lay.
  • Requires ability to walk, stand and sit, sometimes for prolonged periods of time.
  • All employees are required to pass criminal background checks.

Preferred skills:

  • Strong speaking skills and the ability to speak confidently before groups.
  • Knowledge of traditional sacred music, Episcopal liturgical practice, and the use of music in worship.

Compensation

This is a 12-month, part-time position estimated at 8-10 hours per week. Salary commensurate with experience.
