Godly Play

The Godly Play curriculum, created by Jerome Berryman, is used for our Sunday School classes for children ages 4 through 5^th grade. The Godly Play approach helps children explore their faith using stories from scripture and our liturgical tradition. It allows children to “play” with the language of God and God’s people through sacred stories, parables, liturgical actions, and silence. The silence in particular gives time for children to “wonder” about the stories told. Without being given packaged answers, children in Godly Play are invited to make observations about God and God’s people out of their own experience. This allows children to become more fully aware of the mystery of God’s presence in their lives.  The program follows a story-wondering-response model, followed by prayers and a “feast” that concludes the class each Sunday.
